We started this information before: Dr. Jason Samuels [name and circumstances have been changed to protect the confidentiality of our client] was a highly-respected pediatrician in our community. But what about online?

    A few years ago a web designer promised me a new shopping cart for one of my websites. He talked a really good story and I thought he would deliver for me. But when he showed me what he had, I couldn't accept it.

    He went ballistic. Swore at me over the phone, told me that he had already paid his "people in India," and that he knew where I lived and would get his money "out" of me. It was the worst verbal barrage I've ever suffered.

    This sounded really bad to me, especially when he threatened my family and me, so I called my local police.

    The police made it go away within three weeks, though the shadow of what he might do lingered much longer.

    But what the police couldn't help me with were the vitriolic statements spewed all over the Internet about me. My family heritage was question. The marriage of my parents was question (you know what I mean!). And this person was a horrible pain.

These sites used to rate only the local handyman. Now they rate the local pediatrician, too. And the accountant, the therapist, the attorney, and the candlestick maker.

5. If you belong to a Chamber of Commerce or the Better Business Bureau, what do people say about you there?
6. If you know you have a problem that might appear online, put into Google your name and the problem (like a DUI or other legal problem) to see if that surfaces.


Correct

Move Out The Trash
1. What topics can you write about in a blog? You DO have a blog, right?
2. If you do NOT have a blog, start a simple one at blogger.com – start with one then do more based around a single idea or keyword.
3. Think about triage – set up a system to move out the worst and then move on to the rest.
4. Find which keywords produce the results you do NOT want to see, then create content that turns the results around.
5. Create content on all the sites you control.
6. Send bursts of content on Twitter pointing to blog posts.
7. If you do NOT have a Twitter account, set one up – start with one then do more based around a single idea or keyword.
8. Create simple videos to post on your blogs – One Camera, One Take videos work great to start.
9. Create press releases to put out through your blog and on PR websites like PR.com and PRWeb.com.
10. Keep searching for keywords that your clients search on and match your content to them.

5. Use Twitter Search weekly to see what is said about you, your company, your specialty.
6. When you fall below 80% of the content on pages one – three in Google, increase your release pace.
7. When content about you in the first ten pages of Google isn't all created by you, increase your release pace.
8. If something negative slips through to pages one – ten, go back to "Correct" and work through the steps again.
9. Release a post with text, audio, and video and be sure Google sends an Alert within a day; if not, release similar information on a related website.
